Fred Sibley told me he was jacking around with flame throwers back in the 40's.
He is A master with jet cars and lives in the same town as I do in Indiana.
Im sure some one has heard of him.
I'll have to take some pictures of his vintage pictures.
That dude would strap his ass to anything.

They had flame throwers in the movie Grease with John Travolta and that movie was out in 1978. They had them in Americaan Grafity also.Quote:

I seen American Grafity many times, I don't remember any flame throwers. American Grafitiy was based in 1962, as stated in the catch theme " Where were you in '62 ", it was filmed in '73Quote:

OK,,,I guess I should have said Grease was depitcing the 50's.
Like I said "I could be wrong" (about American Graffity) Though I think you should as I will watch it again.
Either way, the 50's came before the 60's. LOL
I asked my dad how far back he used flame throwers and he said he had them on his 50 something Chevy in 1960.
He used a model T coil.
There are two ways I have seen to make exhuast flames, the one with the fuel injetors just sounds like a horrible idea, but the old style where you use the engine seems safe as the amount of fuel is limited to how long your engine will turn after the ignition is cut, and the rear coil and plugs are powered and the flames don't get very far, the cars that I have see how do this get at the most a foot of flame for 10 seconds because they try to flip the engine ignition back on before the car dies.
Dude hot rodding is about being a rebel. you guys probley all run fiber glass bodys on custom frames. my uncle has a willys pick up on a ford frame back in 1958 and it has flamthorowers off the headers which stick out the hood and has had no problems. i say go for it. But be smart about it. it seems your on the right road asking 1st. just my 1/2 a cent. im edditing this i came off harsh sorry

slow-noma....I have a fiberglass '34 on a custom frame and id'e bet you couldn't tell. Either way, im out hot rodding and having a blast.
Anyone who thinks steel cars are the only way to go and the rest aren't real cars is just nuts. Just plain nuts!

Who cares what your opinion is about throwers. It has nothing to do with this post. He's asking if it's safe and if it would go out all four pipes.
As far as safety... yes they are safe IF you know what you're doing and use a little common sense. (the drive through at your local McBurger probably not a good idea)
And for how it will exit the pipes... that's all in how you rig it up. If it's injected, you would probably need an injector in every pipe you want flaming. If you go old school, you might get a little out of the rear pipes, but I think most of the fuel would be burned up by the first set of throwers in the cutouts.
Welcome to the club 68stang. Don't be discouraged by the replies to this post. Most of us here are very helpful.
if you want some help with your throwers, try this guy www.cjhacker.com He's a personal friend of mine and has won many thrower contests. He likes to do things the traditional way though, so don't bring up injection unless you want to get lectured about them.
