Blown Rear End

I though I had progress to report as I finally finished my multi-leaf spring conversion.

But in turning the wheels while up on jacks, I noticed a 'hitch' in the rear-end! Must be a broken ring or pinion gear. Each time around the differetial would jump/bump up an inch or two.

Son of a gun - I was ready to ride!

Its a typical 10 bolt - no posi.

I guess I'll upgrade to posi rather than try to fix this one?

id drop the cover and see if anything is broke. sounds like you might have your drive shaft in a bind. :HMMM:

Yup, I'd check the U-joints, one might have a roller out of place, locking it up in one plane of movement. Happens to the best of us! (or so I've been told by them.)

Thanks guys - I was hoping it was an alignment/binding issue -

When I bolted the rearend to the springs - I noticed the axle was rolled forward 5-10 degrees , tipping the rear-end yolk DOWN similarly.

So - I suppose I need to shim the rearend back straight?

I saw some shims on the net - I think at Landrum.

To the best of my knowlage, you want to make the rearend and the trans. parallel , you can checkit with an inexpensive angle finder. I bought mine at home depot. carlg

Yep, the motor/trans will probably be at about 2-3 degrees down bubble, so the pinion needs to be at 2-3 degrees up bubble. Use a pinion snubber to prevent housing rotation when drag racing.
