Anyone familiar with installing Ford axle seals to prevent c-clip eliminator leakage?

I ordered c-clip eliminator kits for my 12 bolt truck rear. I heard that Ford 8.8" axle tube seals can be modified and installed in the axle tube ends to prevent leakage at the eliminator/backing plate.

Anyone know how to do this?

Moser already sent me the instructions. The only leak preventative is silicone around the bearing housing. I've read alot of articles about leakage being a problem. Besides, instructions for a 12 bolt Chevy truck axle housing are not likely to include info about installing Ford seals to solve a leakage problem.

I guess this is another area (like matching drag springs and shocks) where most don't do research and just live with a problem. Personally I would rather solve it before I install the kits and before it becomes an issue, or oil spots on my driveway.

There are advantages to not using a Ford rear end. If I had the money I would weld Ford ends on mine and stay with the 12 bolt. Regardless, I don't have one and can't afford to change to one now.

My question is aimed at preventing the leak before it occurs, not stopping it after it occurs. Not to be rude, but it seems you are not familiar with using Ford seals in the tube inboard of the tube end. Thanks anyway. When I find the answer I'll post it as it seems like a good solution for those of us that don't have a 9" or those that have Fords requiring c-clip eliminator kits.

I've installed three 9" Ford rear ends in my cars. The inboard seals never really worked for me. Since the bearing is sealed, a press fit on the axle, and a tight fit in the axle, I just coated the bearing seating area with hi-temp black silicone and tapped the axle into place. None of those three leaked. I'm doing the same with my fourth. Since the axle housing is vented, I've also siliconed between the bearing retainer flange and the axle housing.

It worked for me . . . your mileage may differ.

blownS10 this seal deal is gonna be just like the spring deal, wasting a lot of peoples time over nothing, you belive everything you read and when someone on here try to tell you something you know more than he does. denny has forgot more than you'll ever know and yes you are rude. ive used the c-clip eliminator and they never leaked, and yes the ford dif. is the stronger dif. but the 12 bolt will do in a pinch. go back to where you got this info. and let them explane it to you. :HMMM:

Sorry you feel I'm waisting your time by asking questions noone has asked before. If a well known author of chassis books thinks there's more to selecting springs than just buying them and putting them on, I tend to believe him, even if it means I'll be criticized for believing everything I read.

What I was referring to you not being familiar with was using modified Ford seals in a Chevy 12 bolt axle housing to stop c-clip eliminator kits from leaking., as I explained courteously in the post. Apparently you would rather I wait and see if it leaks all over my driveway before doing someting about it.

you don't have to leave on my account and yes this is a forum for asking ? and it don't hurt to say think you sometimes to. i;m sure some of this this is a carry over from some past threads where some people put considerable time in their answers to be over looked and ignored because it want what you wanted to hear. I guess if I cant stand the heat I should get out of the kitchen, but denny was as nice as he could be and maybe I read something into it, but I think I saw some disrespect there and I felt like something needed to be said. if I'm wrong I'm sure someone will tell me so. you have a pattern of reading something that you don't understand that don't mount to a hill of beans and then when some one on here don't agree or dont know anything about it, then we are uninformed. have you ever thought about just maybe the reason no one knew anything about it was because there ant no problem. if you follow the instructions with the eliminator kits then there is no problem. put a 9' ford in it and forget about it. if some body told you the 12 bolt was stronger than the 9' then he is wrong. don't want you to leave on my account as far as I'm concerned it over with. **)

I used to have a 93 Mustang GT. We put 31 spline Moser axles in it with the C-clip Eliminators. On the instructions it read the same way AND said for racing only. Extended street use would cause them to leak. Well after a while on the street, sure enough they started to leak. Re-installed them with silicone again and it still leaked. We ended up sending the axles and Eliminators back to Moser for a new style that was more street friendly. They seemed to work much better as far as leaking.

Probably not much help but that's my experience with the C-clip Elimnators :3dSMILE:
