Hey all.. Have a 52 pontiac 4 door sedan. (same as 50 to 54 chevy)Choppin' the top.. does anyone know if a windshield frome a newer vehicle (car or truck) will fit without cutting or easier to cut than the curved oem glass.
At 5 to 1 odds for cutting oem, it could take most of the budget
Don't cut the glass, lay it back, ya can use what you have without any worries. I personally don't like '50-'52 Chevy/ pontiacs chopped, i'd look better if you sectioned the body rather than chopping the top. I got a '51 Chevy Fleetline 4dr Deluxe with the rare 235/glide drivetrain, just getting some speed parts for the engine, a windshield sunvisor ( although I arleady have it ) a new purple paint job and white and grape purple two tone interior.
Sectioning the body wont give the 70/30 door to glass relationship that the pictures of the car had back in the 50. Artists drew the car with that relation, but when they got built it was closer to 50/50. Hence choping the top would in my opinion make the car more astheticly pleasing.
I'm just hoping that I could use a truck windshield that can easily be cut to size instead of the "hope and pray it dont break" meathod with the oem glass.
Anyone with info and/or has used any other cut glass or glass from another vehicle please let me know

'53-'54 Chevy glass is not the same as '49-'52 Chev. American Pontiac, same as '53-'54 chev back to '50, maybe '49, not sure. Anyway, nothing else works, bite the bullet and cut what you got. BTW, Hardtops and ragtops have different glass again.
do you know anyone in the pizza business. after your windshield cracks heat up a 1/4 in. sheet of plastic and pull it over your glass and hold it till it cools. we used to make alignment templates for CRTs (tv screens) for medical imaging. Had an oven and would heat then press by pulling the corners with all thread and washers and tightening the nuts.. not legal in most states but if you don't use it for a daily driver?.. Ed Roth used to make a lot of buble plex top cars.
I have a 51 chevy that I choped 6 inches. I had a ploblem trying to find someone to cut my glass till I talked to a old glass guy and he told me to use a belt sander with 60 grit paper made for glass. The paper is black in color and it worked great. It took me about 4 hours to sand down each one but I didnt crack them. Just take your time and go slow dont push on it let the sander do the work. :cool:
