Vette problem

Well got a problem with the vette that I can't figure out.
Put in a new MSD, Distributor,Box and coil and they all work good.
Had my son disconect the battery so I could put some new conectors on the coil,which I did.
While he was reconnecting the battery he drpped a wrench acrossed the battery terminals and shorted some thing out. The Car will not crank over now, Ive changed the starter solenoid but not the starter, and the lights won't come on and kill the clock when I try to turn the lights on. I have good power to the solenoin and up in to the engine compartment. I've taken all the car grounds apart cleaned them up and put them back together to make sure I have good grounds every where. And have had the battery tested to make sure it was ok, and it tested good with 850 cold cranking amps. Any Ideas on what it counld be thanks Vegas.

check where the wiring harness goes through the fire wall. the head lights should burn. you've got a loose cont. on a main wire going into the car. pull on all of the fuseable links you have, they will burn in the cover sometimes and you cant see it. :HMMM:

Denny I've checked all the connections and have brand new battery terminal ends/ connectors. And I do have plenty of power at the solenoid. Thats whats weird, and why when you try to turn on the lights does it shut the off the power to the clock. Maybe the starter it self is burnt up?

Sounds like a bad battery to ground connection to me or some bad cable connections to the battery.

also,,depending on how it shorted,,the diodes for the alternator will be shot,,,if they are,,you should be able to check for current draw through the alternator circuit.

Did you check the ground cable itself for continuity ??

Yep; redid all the grounds all ready. It's gotta be a fuse link that I have not found yet. Hope it's not the alternator since it's all chromed. Thanks Guys for all your help, I'll let you all know what I find, unlike some other folks. If you know what I mean, HE! HE! Sorry It took so long to reply but I had to go to work, that way I can pay for the new wiring harness this car definitly needs.

id start with the head lights vara, get them working and the rest will fall in place. long as you got a bat. you dont need a starter or alt. to work on the lights with. :cool:

Happy days again, Some one added a fuse in the power line to the fuse box then taped over it HE! HE! All beter now. Running great thanks for the help every one.

id take that fuse out of the main line and put a circuit breaker in place of it.
