    Chev Rear Axle Question

Is there any Chev Rear axle narrower from the factory than 59" drum face to drum face? S-10s? I have a 12 bolt now out of a big body impala (69-70) and at 63" drum face to drum face it's WAYYYY to wide for a Model T. (that's what the guy was using!!) I'd like to find one in the relm of 57-56 inches wide. I just have no idea of what GM product would have this. Any help would be appreciated!!!

Yeah i could spend $400 and narrow up the 12 bolt but why spend $400 when a possible replacement could be around $100.

Lots of info to keep for reference. Looks like 58" is the best you'll get though.

Thanks Bob, just what I was looking for. Man, It's getting harder and harder to find 70's and 80's parts cars in u-pull-it wrecking yards anymore... what's happening to all this stuff???

Eyee.... don't remind me. Lately I'm finding out more ways than one, especically with my boy, kid's gettin big and gettin pretty smart too!

That link you sent me was great info but is there nay way of knowing which of those GM cars that was 58" wide used the 8.5" ring gear 10 bolt? Rumor has it, that ifn' I'm gonna run a 10-bolt the 8.5" ring gear one is the ONLY one to go with. Any truth to that too?

I guess if anything else, I'll just have to do it the old fashioned way and dive under each and every one and see what it is.
