New build for a 350 or a 383 chevy

Hey guys this is my first time posting here i was thinking of doing a 350 or a 383 stroker motor dont know what to go with yet im trying to get info on getting to 600+ horse power, just wondering if the 350 motor is good to go with then the 383 stroker or if the 383 stroker motor is stronger then the 350, is there a difference what block you get and if so whats a good block to start with, ill be asking lots of questions later on i dont want to jam everything in here yet lol thanks.


This is going to be a LONG project but thats ok im only 27 :)

Tom, before we go any further, what are you gonna do with 600+ hp? What will the motor be used for and what vehicle will it be installed in?

the motor is going inside a 70 chevelle and going 1/4 mile running

o.k., since you'll be bracket racing, it doesn't matter what motor you start with. It'll be a lot easier to make 600 hp with a big block and a lot cheaper. Can you buy that?

well i was looking in summit books and it looks like big block parts are expensive.

You must be lookin' at the 300 hp small block parts, try lookin' at the 600 hp small block parts.

but here is the thing there is nothing in the books that ive looked at thats over 500 horse power parts so if you know any parts website that would be great. + the other thing is finding a BB then after that i have to get it machined.

Here's a 600 hp small block 427. Add up the cost of parts and machining.

I'm not trying to engineer your build. I just think it makes more sense to start with the most cubic inches you can bolt together.

Build what you want.

so get a 400 small block and bore it out to a 427 then :)

im sorry if im going to bother with this but i have been looking and looking in classified adds for someone to be selling a used block i dont mind getting it machined there is really nothing out there i went thru my trading times and there wasnt even a section on chevy or ford spot i wonder if its dropping a little on car building.

Just follow the Car Craft recipe. They made 600 with a small block and you can too, with enough money.

Here's a turn-key and dyno-tuned 600 hp small block for only $8,005. Actually, that seems like a pretty good deal.

im going to build one from scratch even tho i think i can get the price alot lower then that cause alot of it is mostly labor like i said im young its going to be my project car :) thanks alot techinspector1

hey tech just wanted to know i was looking on the site you gave me and im having a hard time knowing what the parts they are using is. is there anyway of knowing what part they are using? thanks

There is a young fellow down in Florida that may be able to give him some good advice. Panama City ,I believe. I think he also has a Camaro.

If I were going to give any advice here, I might say something like, It would be a lot smarter for your first build to be a little more realistic. Learn how to build 400 h.p. first, because not only do you have to learn how to build the motor, You have to be able to make the Chassis and suspension work with that motor.

I have built a 70 Chevelle before with a 406 --4 speed. You dont just throw 600 H.P. in a 70 and go racing. It takes Money and
Knowledge and then some more of each. :whacked: :whacked:

4.185" bore x 4.125" stroke = 454 cubic inches.... 600 hp should be a cakewalk from there.
