We're doing some top mods on a Morris Minor. If your not sure what it is look here. The problem we have run into is finding a rear window. Early model Morris Minors had a small rear window which is what the customer originally wanted. The next thought we have had is to use a rear window from a more popular car. Any thoughts on what might come close to working.
All comments welcome. Also feel free to ask some follow up questions if I did not give enough information.

Just curious why you don't just make the opening like you want it, make a pattern and have a glass cut to fit? Or am I missing something?

Because it is curved. I think a custom curved glass may be costly, or am I wrong?
I will have the side windows cut to fit the opening that are left. And I will cut down the windshield becuase it is laminated glass.
you should figure out the degree of the curve you need by installing a piece of cardoard or any pattern material ( but paper ) in the hole as desired then cut a pattern to the curve that that piece makes and then go to the junkyard and find a cuttable glass or just get a price qoute on a piece of glass.
and always remember "fuk it up or fix it up, the parts cost the same."
If your concerned about cost, when you do the chop, you could do it so the rear window lays down like they normally do for '54 Chevy's, you'd be able to use the rear window the car had, without cutting it.
Cost is not a huge concern, but on that note the budget is not unlimited. Laying the glass down was an optioned I mentioned to the owner but he really would like a smaller window. And I must agree that the rear glass is really big.
I have found an early model Morris with a smaller rear window which I could use, but to save future grief (in case of an accident) I thought it would be great to find a car with readily available glass. Even if I have to cut it down, at least it could be easily found.
I can do a lot of metal fab if needed to make something fit. I have even concidered makeing a flat glass fit.

Because of the cost involved in getting curved glass made, I usually opt for the mar resistant Lexan for the back window. If the guy insists on glass, I have found a couple companies that will make a curved glass window from an aluminum template. Spendy as heck, but if that's what the customer wants....... How about something from one of the late 40's coupes??? Some of them were considerably smaller, and there must be some companies reproducing the glass....

If you opt for the flat glass, what about using a 48 chevy truck rear? Its smaller (looks like) and pretty easy to find I would think.Quote:

Classic New There is a lot of glass options there, might wade through and see if something couldnt work for you.
