Anyone know what trany and rearend is needed for a 350 in a 2x4 S10.
I never did it, but at one time I had a jimmy lowrider that I was considering doing it to, and i had a lot of friends that did it. I believe the 700R4 and the stock rear end. The rear end isn't the strongest, but I believe I read somewhere that it was the same rear end used in T/A's and Camaro's
the rear end in the s-10 is a stronger counter part than offered in a camaro....It also has a bigger internals...and the V6 are usually 3:42's some are 4:10's most 4-cylinders are 4-series....I too would opt for the 700r4
..If it's a 4.3 the engine will mate to the tranny ....you just need offset mounts
Thanks...I've heard a lot of good things about the 700R4. I plan to put a 9" rear end in it to stand up to the hp of the 350.

it's straight forward 700R, stock rear end, stock drive shaft. Elongate your trans mount holes beat your firewall in at the trans tunnel. A radiator from JTR work great and are cheap.(modine) Good luck it is a fun quick project.
I would also get the motor mounts from JTR. They will set the enging back and center it better than the stock ones will. You drive shaft will work unless it's an extended cab, then I think it has too much angle on it and has to be shortened a bit. You can put any trans under it you want. The stock one will hold a few horses but if you going to push over 25 or so, I would go for the 700R or if it's a manual trans now, you could swap out the T56 from a Camaro. If you have the time, no how and money, you can fit anything in there you want...
I always wanted an s10 with a v8
lt1 motor, jtr motor mounts, 700r4 trans, stock 4:10 dif. 1/2 drive shaft out of x-cab and the other half out of a standred cab s-10. had to move the trans crossmember back about 2" :cool:
My wife was no longer able to handle our van. I had just built a 383/350 for power, and she found the forward control aspect, and the power a little overbearing. All she drove had been Volkswagen beetles with high mileage.
As a concession, she is going to walk with me in finding an S10 2WD blazer with a smoked engine. I really look forward to this with her as she now wants to learn and there is so much standard equipment available for this swap.
It has helped to have her read this forum where others have done the same thing.
Boy, she found the Van a little overbearing. I have her convinced the 383/350 will k i n d a be like her old Beetle, only with a different power plant. I suspect, she will come to enjoy the project. You guys have a lot of info on this forum.
3years ago I built my 16 year old an s10 blazer,350/300, with 700R, used motor mounts from Jegs because they were cheap. Short water pump, headman headers, Radiator from JTR, Astro van power steering pump,alternator, ac setup. It all worked great he drove it for three years,about 40,000 miles. I wanted it for myself it was really quick and suprising it handled good after lowering it 4". Good luck
I have a slammed 2wd s10 blazer with a 350, and a 350 turbo with shift kit, NO one hear said anything about a 350 turbo, when I go to a 9" ford rear 35 spline, I plan on running a glide with a 3800 stall, not very streetable, I have this convertor in my 69 c10, but lots of fun when you take it out!!!!!!!!!!:)
hey guuys this is a great site and helpful too! just wanted to let ya know i just got done putting 350 V-8 IN A 1984 S-10 TH350 TRANNY AND A STOCK S-10 REAR runs great and is really fast have plans on installing a 9" ford rear out of an old fox box ford mustang but right now its my sons truck and we have a alot of fun with it , i may get some pics up on here soon? good luck in your swap if needing any help let me know at lang512@aol.com be glad to help advise ya on anything , great site guys !!
