(to those who build hot rods for a living)

this is a rather personal question but if you have a business building hot rods my question is how much money do you make a year.

its impossible. some guys may do it full time some may do it part time. some are self employed ,some arent. some work 80+ hours a week, some are totally self sufficiant, some farm some of the work out....Ill ball park & say anywhere from 5000.00 to 100,000.00 a year. pretty wide range right. depends on how much experiance, how good you are, how in demand you are. this topic has been gone over a bunch of times already.

ok say you do it full time working 60 hours a week with like 3-4 employees doing a car or 2 at a time. Ball park it realistically.

its hard to say, how much are you paying for rent, utilitys , what are you paying the emplyees for salarys or wages, workers comp & unemloyment insurance, health insurance, is all your thousands of dollars in equipment paid for ? how much are you worth ? how much do you owe ? are people knocking down your door wanting you to do high dollar cars for them? or are you doin little stuff here & there ? no way to really say. how smart are you business wise ? you could bring in alot of money but be flat broke ...or you could be bringing in so-so money, but actually be making money.

About a buck 95. Most business owners don't make nearly as much as most people think. I am self employed, working 2 different businesses, one car relayed, one art related. On the books I made nothing last year, truly, I made enough to live. If you break it down, most self employed people don't do it for the money as much as just doing it for yourself. The hours are well over the 60 you asked about, work almost always goes home with you in some way or another, but on the upside, I'm my own boss. I can take off and get my kid from school when I need to, I set my own schedule. The biggest problem is that the boss is a butthole.

MGM man it doesnt matter how much I make. Like URO said, for the first few years, you may not be able to pay yourself anything, might have to have a second job to feed yourself, if your lucky, & good, the economy doesnt kill peoples wallets to pay you, maybe youll start making good money in a few years. Actually, Im not in the hotrod business, but the service is service wheather your a hotrod builder or an interior designer, or landscaper, or plumber, or vending machine repair guy.Iv ebeen self employed for 4 years, I have very litttle overhead, makes it a little easier.

I don't know many people that are in the hot rod business for the money...... Hot Rodding to me is much more than a way to make a living. It is a way of life. I put in about 60 hours this week, then spent 10 hours today working on a buddies car for nothing....If I have a lot of money, I spend it on tools, cars, or other hobbies. Ask Boyd, looks like he's in it only for the bucks. As with most folks who are self-employed I either have a lot of money and no spare time, or lots of spare time and no money.

I gave you the most honest answer I can give you, self employment is thankless work. The boss never comes up and says "good job", or "here's a raise". The only thing he thinks about is that we couldv'e done more today, even on 16 hour days.
