Hello there, I am working on a project car, I am putting a small block chevy with a turbo 350 in a dodge dart. Can someone who is fimiliar with mopars tell me about their normal drivetrain setup? is the engine normaly offset to the passanger side? I have a good 8 3/4 inch rear end but the yoke is not in the center of the housing. Do I need to get a diffrent rear?
Personally, I would dump the chevy and go mopar all of the way. In my opinion, you are ruining a dart by using a chevy engine and tranny. You can run your VIN number on some different mopar websites to see what engine came in your car. It could have been a 6 cyl, a small 318 v8, a 440, or even (but I doubt) a hemi. Darts came with all of these engines and more depending on the year and model. You can find a good 318 and tranny for just a little money. That would be my suggestion.
I would personally use the Mopar 318 in the Dart. Most folks do not know that the 318 can be made into a great performance engine. It would just not be right to put "orange" under that hood.
Personally, if you like your chevy so much go buy a chevy to put it in and sell the Dart to someone who will appreciate it. To ask a Mopar guy how to drop a chevy in a Mopar is asking for serious trouble.
At one time i would have been alover a V8 of anykind. But now a days i see so many V8 varitions its all boring. So this might be off the wall but have you ever considred the Slant 6 that came in it. There is place called clifford 6=8 that specialzies in the inlines and there uniqe. Or one of the new motors out today would be cool. I think the SRT-4 motor is availbe in crate form. That would be cool and uniqe. a turbo charged fule injected 250 HP motor in a old dart.
Im nuts this is the kind of stuff i would do. I just want be diffrent form the other guys, i mean i go to car shows all the time and sometimes i think if i see one more 350 TPI with a 700R4 tranny and IRS or 9 inch rear end i am going to puke. :whacked:
AMEN!! I have a 63 Valiant with a 360 Magnum, I thought about putting in a 2.5 Turbo out of my Daytona and putting my Dakota 5-speed behind it and use a 4.56 gear. The car would scream and the gas mileage would be awesome. And then you could say when is the last time you seen that combo???
Joe, i know this reply is somewhat distant from the time you started this thread, but in my opinion, its not the best idea to go with the Chevy motor for you dart. Many mopar people are gonna take offense to the chevy/mopar deal, and plus its just more work for you. I think a very well built 318 or 340 setup would do you much better, and gain you tons more repsect from mopar fans. I own a 71 Swinger, and i remember joking about dropping a chevy engine in, and even though i was joking, people were getting on my case. So i dropped in a mild 360 with some performance parts, and a performance exhaust. Ricers dont stand a chance, and mopar fans like it. Dont ruin the car with chevy stuff, keep it mopar, like mopar guys always say, its mopar, or no car!

Oh, I don't know about that. I have an AMC Marlin with a big block Chevy in it, and I enter it in Mopar Country every chance I get.:p
