Pretty much just limited by what you want and the investment you want to make. About the same amount of work for ethier motor as far as installing.
What kind fo work would be needed? Lie firewall work? OR just custom motor mounts?
The bel airs had BB's in them from the factory so there is no firewall work that would need to be done. Just because of the age I'd get some new mounts for the swap. Besides that then its a pretty straight forward swap. I'd probably upgrade the radiator for better cooling and swap out the front springs if you go with a BB. Theres really nothing "special that would need to be done though.
327 sb with 305 heads helps the top end and will clear all firewalls and fits origanal mounts in car no fab to do.
Any small block Chevy from a 283 to a 400 will bolt right in there. That would be easiest and they are plentiful. The big block that came in the '64s was the 409, predecessor to the 396-427-454. Those are pretty hard to come by these days. Later model big block will take a little extra work, but should fit with that big engine compartment.
