69 C10 Engine mount question

Hi there, I have a 69 C10 that originally came with a 283, I noticed on the frame that there are additional hole to move the motor mounts either forward or back. I will be putting a 406ci SBC in the truck and I wanted to move the engine forward a bit so that the rear of the motor is more accessible. I was just not sure wether doing this would affect the weight balance of the truck to much or if there are any modifications that would have to be done to accompany moving the motor forward. Anytime you move the motor it will affect the weight balance of the car/truck. Also take into consideration the other things such as how much room you have between your fan&radiator, you'll need to lengthen your drivshaft, radiator hose may need to be replaced with a shorter one, shifter/shift linkage will be affected and may need to be re positioned, trans mount would need to be repositioned, etc etc...

It can be done (I have my motor positioned farther back by about 6") but just want to make sure you think of the other "little" things that will need to be done.

Well I'm going with a new tranny with new linkages as I'm not to trusting of the original linkages from '69, also I will only be moving the engine about 2 1/2" forward so clearance between the rad and the engine shouldnt be a problem, I was more worried about things like stress on the frame, how much of a difference it would make in the weight balance things like that, as I am using the stock frame pretty much how it is. The drive shafts are shot anyhow so I will have to replace that. Thanks for the input.

far as stress on the frame I dont see where it would really create any more stress so I'd say that shouldnt be a problem. The weight balance...2.5" isnt a whole lot but it probably will make the front a tad nose heavier so I'd say to slap a front sway bar on if you dont have one already and maybe look into upgradeing the brakes if its in the projects budget.
