Does anyone know a secret on how to get the bolt that holds the cross pin in ....out after half of it is still in there?
Thanks denny goin to give it try today
I use a 12" long 1/8" LH thread drill bit to drill it with. 9 outta 10 times the bit catches and backs the screw out. When it doesn't I have my hole for the easy out.
Agreed, 'cept there's usually enough burr there to thread it's way right out.
At least the 15-20 times I've done it over the past 20 years.;)
Agreed again.Quote:

You appeared to be dismissing my point.
Tell me, with all that experience, you still don't have a long LH drill bit in your tool box to accomplish what I'm saying?
BTW, my 20 years is actual work experience, not fixing grandma's AMC or counting when I was a teen/pre-teen cutting my teeth.
42. Started at Royal Oldsmobile in Memphis, TN in 1983.
This is what I was referring to. The smilies and all.Quote:

Still trying to be right?
So now that you've been here a while you just aimlessly run your mouth?
Is that what you're trying to say?
Hard to snow the snowman Denny.

I figured some things were better handled privately. I see you don't share that thought.
BTW, 98 Ford's didn't come with 4.9's. But you knew that, right?
Point taken.
i would help you denny, but it looks like you got it covered.:whacked: **)Quote:

I didn't know only one person could fix everybodies problems. I snow no man. I'll tell you like it is. Why would I want to do that? I'm trying to help, not conquer! You really are a funny guy. I hope your stay here is pleasent, and you calm down and enjoy it. No need to send me private emails, Say it here. I hide from no one.
Holy cow! I'm NOT impressed.Quote:

Hate to sound like im jumping on the "Bash the new guy" bandwagon, but watch the AMC remarks-ok? Some of us are still driving them;)
:3dSMILE:
I hear ya'. I still have fond memories of my 401 Javelin. On a quiet moonlit night I could almost hear it rusting around me.;)
JESE GUYS all i wanted was a suggestion i didnt mean to get something started i tried all day sunday with no luck hey sparky were do you get this drill bit mine broke exactly were denny says they break i cant do any thing till i get that pin out of there
I have a place here in Gainesville called Bernies Tool Co. Any local tool supplier should have long drill bits.
Sorry for the added attraction. Some here seem to enjoy bashing.
i drilled my but off yesterday i could look in the hole with ba flash lite and hardly made adent in it is it hardened steel im working under the car am i goinig to have to take the rear out i had to take the bearing cap off
before you spend a lot of money buying stuff, if there no treads left on the bolt then the drill ant gonna do you no good. and if there is no streads on it, it should come out any way. have you moved the pin one way or another to see if it will line up better?
if there is no streads it should drop out. like denny said hit it a little harder
theres no threads its broke half way inside the cross pin ismacked it good with a hammer i used a magnet on the end of the whole thought it would suck it through the whole as i hit on it its stuck man i think i might have to get another rear unless someone can come up with another idea
i dont know what you are doing, people get them out every day and without a drill belive it or not. probably done beat the end up with the drill bit by now and if you dont have streads on the bolt you are wasting your time with that drill bit. its just spining in the hole. you are pushing it in further with the drill. :HMMM:
As i said previously, there is a burr left when it breaks. If you drill it with a LH bit it stands a good chance of coming right out (I have done this many times). Even if it doesn't come right out you now have a hole with which to stick an extractor in. Either way you're making progress.
As a last resort I have drilled a small (3/32") hole opposite the pin and knocked it back through with a small drift.
