what idiots lights are on? why did you bat go dead? is the lights on all the time or when motor is running?:whacked:
Your having a electrical power source thats drawing enough amperage to keep your lights on. Did you have this problem before because if you just installed a new battery and had the problem before, thats probably what killed your old battery. Doesn't take much amperage to do this especially in the cold.
that could be anything, unplug the oil switch and see if the oil light goes out. if it does then its the oil sw. on the motor if it dont its a short some where between the sw. on the motor and the dash. need to check your alt to see how many voltage its putting out. :HMMM:
It's really strange.
I did not notice any problems before the new battery.
I replaced it because the one I had was fairly old and deader than a doornail. I think mostly from sitting in the garage during our last cold spell.
What really strikes me as strange is that these are coming on without any ignition switch engagement.
When I hooked up the termials, I could hear a sound like a set of contacts being energized.
I put a new alternator in the car in '01.
I also replaced the external voltage regulator at that time.
I've always had an "issue" with headlights dimming and brightening at will.
sounds lke a short some where hard to say. need to find out what relay is clicking. if i was guessing id say ign. switch or head light sw. i think you are on your own. :HMMM:Quote:

I'm going to pull the connector off the ignition switch on the column.
I've had to replace these switches in other vehicles before.
Keep your fingers crossed.
It's really nice out today here in Tx. I want to go cruising so badly.
Thanks for all Y'alls input and replies.
I'll keep things posted.
Nope, not the switch.
Time to go hunting through the copper jungle.
denny may have said this before, but cut everything off, hook your test light in series with the ground wire and if it burns there is a draw, then start pulling fuses until you put the lights outs and that will tell circuit the short it in.:cool:Quote:

I think that I may have a bad voltage regulator.
I removed it and the lights aren't on now.
I kept hearing the pinging of contacts when I connected the battery before, but not now.
I'm going to replace it and see if that was the problem.
IF so, it's a cheap fix.

i can see it making the alt light come on, but not the oil light. but who knows.
Sounds like it could be a short or ground... short to ground problem or such. Bad grounds can do some crazy things sometimes. I would check that out first because that is much easier to look for and if that's not it then you will know that you won't have to worry about it.
I also experience dimming headlights on my 2000 Kia Sportage but it's not because of a bad ground. It could have something to do with the 1,600 watt amplifier thats hooked up in the back!
this is a long shot but make sure u have the cables on the right posts of the batt.
