Can't shift while engine running
Hi guys, I need a little help. I have a 1969 Camaro. The engine was just overhauled. It is running great at this time. My problem is I can not shift in any gear while the engine is running. It shifts great while the engine is not running. I did not adjust anything when I took things apart. Tell me what is wrong. I sure would like to take it for a spin!Wildphil

Well, if it's a standard shift, make sure you have your clutch linkage adjusted correctly."PLAN" your life like you will live to 120.

I did not adjust the linkage when I removed it and replaced everything with the linkage adjusted how it was removed. Could this still be the problrm?Wildphil

With the engine shut off the transmission shifts through all gears and feels normal. With the engine running it will not go in any gear. I will replace the rod on the linkage it is froze up. The thing does act like it just is not working the clutch. But it is at the same adjustment as when taken off.Wildphil

Something or somethings must have shifted slightly to change the adjustment of the linkage. Tans. and motor mount bolt holes are slightly larger than the bolts (Just as an example) so a little shift in alignment here and there and it will need re-adjusting. If this is indeed the case you'll have slightly more free play in the peddle than you did prior to the overhaul."PLAN" your life like you will live to 120.

Maybe the pilot bushing in the end of the crank is gone or bad.....
Is the crank you put in the new motor yours or is it an exchange?
Just a thought

Well guys I found the problem. The clutch fork had shifted and pushed on to far. I pulled it back into position and it shifts great now. Thank all of you for the advice.Wildphil
I wonder if air could be trapped in there, maybe more run time would purge it out.
