Hey,
I have been having a problem finding a starter for my f250 that lasts longer than 2-3 starts. The teeth on the starter always end up being shaved off. I have tried shimming it but it hasnt worked. I was told that they no longer make starters for a 390 and that the re-manufactured one was probably from a 351. Any ideas you have or if you have had this problem yourself and know how to fix it would be great. Thanks.

Fords have a notorious tendancy to come loose from the transmission due to twisting. My suggestion would be to get a new starter(if you dont have one) shim it to the correct contact point, and insert the bolts with just a hair of lok-tite. Many times this will help. If not, take a look at your flywheel.
If it chews up a starter that quick a new flywheel is in order,only FE starters will fit FE motors.
Take it to a starter/alternator guy and have em beef it up for you. They may accidentally have one.
