Product Review - Calyx Manifold Dressing
Those of you that have cast iron manifolds on your hot rod or restored vehicles check this out. I came across Calyx Manifold Dressing during a web search one day and decided to give it a try. Cost was $13.95 plus $4 shipping. Like all specialty products sometimes it's hard to believe their claims, but this one so far has lived up to them. We'll see how it does 6 months or a year down the road. I am attaching before and after pictures of my manifolds. Only preparation it took was brushing them off with a wire brush then wiping them down with laquer thinner or other degreaser. The before pictures of mine are after the wire brushing and wipe down. I then took a tooth brush (I always save the old ones!) and started on the manifolds. The whole application to both manifolds took less than 30 minutes and took an amazingly small amount of the product. I used extra care to brush it in thoroughly then used a rag to wipe them down afterwards. Any rust has disappeared and the colors are even and consisten with no streaks. I can't wait to get them back on the car and let it run a while as they say that bakes it in. I chose to take my manifolds off, but the company says it can be done on the car without a problem. It should work on other cast iron as well, I also plan to try it on my disk brake rotor hubs.
Check the product out at http://www.calyxmanifold.com/ or do a web search on Calyx Manifold for other suppliers.Last edited by Stu Cool; 01-11-2005 at 07:36 AM.
Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!

I used this product several years ago on cast iron manifolds. I was pleased with the results and it lasted the 4 years I ran the manifolds. It seem like on a couple of occasions I touched up some "spots" that appeared, with good success. JoeJoe

Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
