There is a richmond 5 speed the 68' camaro Im working on. When you get on it the engine torques enough to twist the engine and make the shifter hit the body so it wont shift. I was told that by using a 70's Big block motor mount I could correct this problem because the big block mount has metal hooks of some kind that keep the motor from pulling up. The car has a Small block with insane power that just eats up the motor mounts in it. Any help would be much appriciated.
Either that or use solid metal mounts, available from Summit, Jegs, Speedway, etc,etc. I'd go with solid metal with that much power.
Or use a torque strap, basically something that bolts to the left side of the engine and the frame limiting how much it can twist up. You could make one at home from some scrap flat iron if you were really crafty or thrifty. I think that this is what might you might have referred to. You could just get some better mounts or take off the console and cut more space in the shifter hole to allow the shifter room too. Keep in mind that solid mounts will probably shake the car some more with a radical idle since there is less rubber to dampen the vibration. Whatever works for you. Comfort, or practicality.
Couple options: You can take a couple pieces of chain and a turnbuckle and tie the left side of the motor to the frame like 1stGen suggested. That's what folks did before the steel or interlocking motormounts came about. Or you can use solid motormounts. If you do the latter, do NOT use a solid transmission mount or you will end up breaking either the belhousing or transmission case when the whole thing twists. The solid mounts will transfer more vibration to the chassis, but hey it's a hot rod right?

The owner of the camaro wants to keep the vibrations down, so I think solid motor mounts are out. The car is really cherry so I know he wount let me cut anything. He is pretty picky about what goes into his car so I think he will want to go with the interlock big block mounts. Does anybody know what make and model the interlock big block mounts came on? thanks.
