I always like to carry along a 3-4 foot long...
I always like to carry along a 3-4 foot long jumper wire as well. That has saved the day on several occasions.

How high does your ammeter read? 15 to 15.2 volts does not sound terribly high to me. Are you sure there is actually a problem? If there is a problem, it could be a defective battery drawing...
