I did just about the same thing. It worked out...
I did just about the same thing. It worked out well for me, gave me a place to mount things like the fuse block and wires, etc. Are you gonna fill in the edges?

I only left about 3/4 of an inch. Just enough to...
I only left about 3/4 of an inch. Just enough to loosen the bolts at the bellhousing for me. Once they are loose I can lower the crossmember and sneak the bolts out to remove the trans.
Wiring can be a pain. My problem is I get in a groove and have a plan and then get sidelined to another project and when I come back I forget what the heck my plan was.
