16 GA is right stout. I used it once for the floor of a 68 falcon. A little overkill in retrospect. Easy to weld though. I'm thinking 18 is good enough for my upcoming project though..
Education is expensive. Keep that in mind, and you'll never be terribly upset when a project goes awry.
