Can a person cut the doors to make it a 2 door? Looking to see if that is possible.
I think it's all about doing something that most don't do. Thought I would ask before I try. Just need some people with knowledge to let me know that have done this to a vehicle.
It's done quite often. Probably more work than it's worth. What's wrong with a four door???

I just like the 2 doors better. I chopped the roff off of my 66 lincoln which had suicide doors, so I've already had the suicide thing if that make since.
Anything is possible. I have a 37 Cadillac sedan, similar body style. In my opinion, it would look silly if you just welded the rear doors shut or if you went through the trouble of trying to shorten the entire vehicle. However, I could envision a situation where you lengthened the front doors, chopped the top, and extended the rear quarter windows to make a longer window. Does that make sense?
I'm thinking about cutting the center of the rear door out, Taking the front part of the rear door that I cut out and putting that on the rear part of the door. Then moving the post back and taking the cut out section of the rear door and putting that in the center of the front door after cutting that in half. It wouldn't look right with a small door or making the body shorter. You are thinking just what I'm thinking. You are correct that anything is possible. I've been doing alot of dreaming. Thank you for your input.
Sounds like an interesting challenge. You might also keep an eye out for a 2 door body laying around somewhere and just swap them out. Here's one you might be able to make a low-ball offer on.....http://americandreamcars.com/1937pontiac2dr.htm:)
Thanks Randy. I've looked at alot of them. The back end ,trunk area is different. This is what I'm looking at to do. I believe he did what I want to do. I have put alot of thought into this. I love a challenge.

Cool! Keep us posted with lots of pics of your process! I'm curious if that car on the link was originally a 4 door or if Pontiac also made a 2 door "humpback" & "flatback"? (Sorry, I'm using Ford terms here because I don't know what Pontiac called them).Quote:

Question about the vin # on the frame on my 37 pontiac.
Most of it is wore away. What's a person to do with something like that.
I have a relative looking for a 49-50 Merc. Of course the two doors have been popular since day one of '49, so solid builders are almost non-existant. Four doors are so much cheaper, it seems worth the effort to modify one, so that is a good alternative for us.
I don't know how many of those Pontiacs are even around. That may be the simplest solution.
Generally, the front doors on a two door car are wider than the doors on a four door car...........they narrow the doors on the four door version to squeeze two more doors behind the front ones. So to convert to a two door there are two ways to do it. First is to find two front doors from a two door, graft those in, and modify the area behind them to fill in what hole is left from the rear doors being there at one time. The second way is to stretch the existing front doors by adding metal to them to make them wider.
We got involved with doing the four door to two door conversion on a 49 Ford we were playing around with at one time. (We ultimately gave up because we decided this particular car wasn't good enough to spend more time and money on) We did the route of buying two front doors from a two door and gutting the area where the four doors once sat. Then we were going to cut up the two back doors and use the sheet metal to fill in the voids.
If you just weld up the back two doors and use the old front doors unmodified, it sort of gives a funny look to most cars as the fronts look too narrow and the back area ends up looking too long. As was mentioned, it can be done, but is a lot of work to pull off correctly. I also agree that the four door versions of that particular car are pretty cool as they are.
Here are some shots of the 49 we were hacking up and what it looked like once the front doors were swapped out for two door versions. The 3rd picture shows the difference in width between the old doors and the new tudor doors.
