    1947 Dodge Pickup Build

Hoping that this build thread will keep me motivated to finally finish, or at least get the Dodge streetable. I bought the truck when I was 14, and really didn't know what I was doing. Put it on a S10 frame with a Chevy 350/TH350. Then life came, marriage, kids, house, then became interested in Jeeps, a 68 Chevy C10, then a different Jeep, new house, 2nd kid. So I'm 28 now, and finally gonna work on the truck.

The plans are, supercharged 350, TH350, get the body together, fix my hacked up firewall. Paint and all that pretty stuff will come when I can afford it. Probable be a few years for real paint. I'm building this out of stuff I have laying around.

I'll get some more pics later. Some pics of my middle school follies. I look at some of my hack jobs and think that was genius and some I think are scary.

I'm anxious to see what you build. Be sure and take lots of pictures!

I did the S10 frame swap 12 or 13 years ago. Had planned to build it almost exactly as you have yours. I started working on it again a few days ago and found ur thread today. But I think I'm gonna put a bed on it. Probably a basic box with trailer fenders like a 40ish Willys pickup. I like the Willys trucks of the gasser drag racing era.

Welcome back onto the site Joe and by the sound of it you are already acquainted with Flipper. I like your truck and having owned it since you were 14 is amazing. As Flipper says, we like photos and stories of how your build is progressing and yes the odd photo of pets, children and anything else that you think we would love to see is most welcome..

I've got a 41 Dodge truck for a project too...but I have to get my boattail finished before I am allowed to start anything else.

Not a whole lot of dodges rodded to use as examples of what to do (mine was bought in pieces without the factory frame...not sure how it goes together )

As it sits tonight. Pulled everything apart, pulled the seized 350. I put a 2 bolt main 350 in it and never covered the carb. The hood leaked and ruined the motor. That was probably 10 years ago. Every summer I would get a bug up my a$$, pull it to the garage to start on it and I would do 1 thing then quit.

I bought a 4WD Chevy truck for a donor motor. I bought it off a friend that gave it a JC Whitney rebuild and lost interest. Putting a Weiand 144 Roots style blower on it. Its a low compression smog motor with 882 heads. Not gonna be a big power house, but should still run good when I drop in a cam.

EDIT = I painted the frame in the mid 90s, it getting painted red or black. The Yellow has to go.

The truck is named the "Girlfriend" because the same girl I was dating at 14 is the same girl I'm married to now. We where talking on the phone one day and I had to call the previous owner and my wife/girlfriend thought I was talking to some other girl. She thought I was meeting some other girl the day I bought it. I didnt tell her till the day I brought it home.

I think those early Dodge trucks would be rare as hens teeth down here too. I like seeing different types of vehicles getting used as rods,it is so refreshing,eg. Flippers boattail is a one off that I 'm enjoying following and the other build that is left of centre which has a heap of wow factor is I Scream truck/van both on this site.
Congratulations on you hooking that girfriend and making her your wife and proofing that it is only those rich famous hot rodders (Jesse James) that don't know how to look after their very special partners.

I will be watching this for sure, I have c10 76 Chevy short bed but I think it is to big for the 39 Chevy to sit on. I'll get to one day hopefully.

Keep it going you will get there.

The body is off, did some measuring. I'm gonna need to move the motor back 6inches to get it where it needs to be. And thats leaving 1in to spare for the transfer case to clear the crossmember for the torsion bars. I also took a pic of the front suspension (crappy pic I know) for anyone that thought this was gonna have a straight axle. So the AWD is going to be very stealthy and hidden.

I havent forgot about this, I just got restarted on the project. Been having to get the house and property ready for winter, firewood cut and of course my son being born. But I'm back on it. Cut the one frame in half. Waiting on help to lift the 47 Cab to cut the other frame.

Windstorm was nice enough to blow the cab over and smash the crap out of it. Put it on the rear frame rails so I could weld and over night it got windy... F##K!!!!!
