Really good to hear from a guy who has it right!!!!! Rat rods are something new and not, as some would have you believe, the rebirth of hot rods... I can only speak for me. I have nothing against the Rat Rods. The part I have a problem with is the one's who believe that's how it used to be.... Those of us who were there know better. Good to hear that there's some people who actually understand the whole rat rod thing!!!!!Quote:

it appears to me some folks have never seen a thread they will ever agree with that being wrong opinon or wrong make , wrong model , wrong engine , wrong paint , wrong taste , wrong age , you are either a young punk or and old fart everything is wrong ALL the time except for their own opinion.

We didn't bother with all these silly classifications. There were Hot Rods, Sports Cars, Stockers, and show boats.... All these classifications and other such BS is a new thing. Lots of folks now like to give there car some special designation, either for the sake of belonging and being another copy cat, or feeling this gives them the right to look down their nose at everyone who doesn't have a car like theirs.
i wouldnt look down my nose at anyone dave , but as you know yourself this site and C&E are about the only places were we all come together with all kinds of cars and can discuss stuff wheter its good or bad , tommorow is a new day and most have the ability to move on and get over it ....Quote:

Aaaah, nothing personal. Just tired of everybody building the same dang thing!!!! Whatever happened to unique??? What's the deal? If people can't order everything for their ride that comes out of a box and gets bolted on, most don't build it!!! Guess I just miss the old days when people did the majority of their own fabricating and not just jump on the net and see who makes something to bolt on. There are some very creative guys here on CHR, lots of very unique cars which is the main reason I like it here.
Funny you should mention Euro-Trash.... I keep scanning the ads and eBay for a BMW that needs to be adopted and hot rodded!!!! And I'm still waiting to find an old E-Type Jag in my price range!!!!
Maybe I've just been at it so long that any car that isn't totally one-off just doesn't excite me anymore. I still have an endless list of potential projects I'd like to build or see built someday and not a one of them will be a store bought body sitting on a store bought frame with 350/350 power!!!!!!:LOL: :LOL: :LOL:

There is a game, actually 2 games that are now abandonware so there free. there Street Rod and Street Rod II. the game basis is simple, you buy an old car out of the paper, soup it up w/ parts bought out of the paper, fill it up w/ gas and go race on the street for money or pinks, there based in the 1960's. there Dos games made in 1989 and 1991 ( I think ) and you might need an older computer ( I did/ do ) but there worth it. I'll email them to anybody who wants them. just send a PM w/ email and you'll get them. I run them w/ an old 333mhz IBM laptop w/ win 95. Win 2k runs them too, and some versions of XP, forget vista, the worthless peice of crap Microsoft calls an OS.
the hot rod game works pretty much the same way , you start with $5000 grand and buy a junker and race it for cash to make your up grades or lose the car trying , and i agree vista sucks:3dSMILE:Quote:

yea. I have hotrod Garage to glory also. figured out a hack mod for it. theres a file that can be read in notepad that contains the parts pricing. just make a stock block worth a lot of money. then sell your stock block, you end up with lots of $$$$$$. I have 3 cars running in the 6.80-7.00 range because of this.:3dSMILE: you can also change HP values, but there is a programmed cap value, so you'll only get full HP quicker.Quote:

You know I've wondered what is a Rat Rod myself a time or two. I was born in 1947 and was around for a lot of this. I have always been a Hot Rod guy or maybe just a car guy. I bought my first car in Mt Pleasant Texas at a tote the note car lot. It was a 1940 Ford coupe and I payed $295.00 for it a hundred down and 5 bucks a week. I was 13 years old and the proud owner of a Hard Ship drivers licsense which you could then get in Texas if you were rural and needed to drive to support the farm. It wasn't a Hot Rod per se it was just an old car. I drove the piss outta that old Ford and when I joined the Corps in 1965 left it parked in front of the Marine Corps recruiters office in Dallas. I have always wondered what happened to it, hell they probably crushed it within a week. But maybe just maybe some dude in Dallas or Fort Worth is driving around in it with suede paint and chrome reverse rims, thats the best I can ever hope for that old 40 Ford.
I absolutly "USED" to cringe when I heard the term Rat Rod. I hated the term, but it is after all just a term. Dreamed up by some guy like all of us on this board, a car guy!! Thats cool with me and I learned a long time ago that I am not bound by some one else's terms.
If you like em in the suede or shiny thats cool and I personally don't like looking at every car being the same. Man there is room for both---Isn't there?

Me I don't need no labels. And I pretty much like em all. Billet is even cool with me, Aluminum is really easy to work with hand tools and it doesn't wear out my blades nearly as quick, so I say Billet is a good thing. Shiny paint is cool with me too, and I probably prefer it on most cars and I own both suede and shiny. And I'm not embarrassed to drive either.

The term "rat rod" seems to have become a catch phrase for any rod that is not finished. At first I didnt mind the term, but the more I see cars like the one pictured here, the more Im coming to hate the name!......I generally think of an unsafe car when I hear the term rat rod......I dont want something as unsafe as this (and this is mild compared to some) on the road with me!!!.....JMHO....:rolleyes:

Well, I'll be. I had a Rat Rod and didn't even know it except it was a '59 Austin Healy I bought for $100 in High School...no grille/flat black paint/fibergalss patches etc but ran well. Looked like that because I was broke...traded it for a 40' Ford Sedan shiny (almost) and stock except for the 283/hurst slapped in there.
Maybe that early suede paint job makes me like my suede 27 Rod.
I've been painting anything and everything for 30+ years. and that includes bikes.
Before the "rat rod" fad, the bikers were doing a similar style...and they were called them "rat bikes".
Many motorheads are involved in both hobbies.
I suspect that early in the rod version of the trend, somebody adapted the style... the name... or both, to their rod project, and "Rat Rod" was born.
