Chaz: There is another issue here, and maybe it is just me seeing it this way, and if it is, I apologize.
But, I think it is sort of a slap in the face to us for you to post a question on here, and then post exactly the same pictures and question on another forum. I understand trying to get as much input as you can, but it is sort of like saying you don't trust our opinions, and want second opinions.
Like I said, it may be just me that sees it this way, but I feel that if you are asking someone for help, it just seems a little disrespectful to turn around at the same time and ask somebody else.

those inner spacers and nuts would have to go. i really don't understand the spacers deal. if the u-bolts fit the springs then i don't see the need to weld it, if the u-bolt are wider than the springs then i would weld it. JMO:)Quote:

Weld both sides of plates{see pic} and remove the spacers and make sure there is some sort of locating pin on the springs under the metal plate and add castle nuts to the u-bolts with the kotter pin lockers, instead of the regular nuts.I do not think there will be any problems with that part of it at all.
I post both places frequently because I think I get more viewpoints that way. I am not doubting or second guessing anyones information, I just like to get as many opinions and ideas as possible. I am on killbillet.com and will probably post there once I get everything redone the way everyone suggested. I redid a v6 mustang and always posted on both of the top boards just to get all the opinions and viewpoints I could. Not trying to "step on any toes" or check up on what you tell me, I just like to get everyones input. One or two guys on the hamb had pics of their setups which are quite like what I am trying to do (even though according to quite a few people it won't work). Had I only posted here I would have gotten good input, but no pics of someone who has done the same thing in this instance. Maybe next time it will be the opposite.

I am going to make sure I have a good locating stud into the plate, and weld the plate to the axle not only only top like is marked, but I can get to a good chunk of it underneath as well. I am going to make one piece spacers that fill the gap between the plate and axle pad with no nuts, I will weld them to the plate once I am satisfied with everything else. I want the spacers there to keep me from breaking the corners off the axle pad itself when I tighten the ubolts. They will be short enough to allow the axle pad and plate to bend a little towards each other, but not enough to break (hopefully). I may put a small leaf under the u end of the ubolts mounting bracket as someone suggested that the area it covers is small and may wear badly and break. I hate to do that as I am worried about the scrub line already.
OK, I just went out and checked, and I have a good 1 1/2 inch clearance on the scrubline. That is from rim to rim, not from rim to tire contact figuring on TWO flat tires so I should be OK.
Put another plate under the 4 nuts and get rid of the spacers.
For what its worth I agree with poncho62 I just don't like the spacers
Yep. . . . . . . what poncho said.
That's the ticket.

yep...Just seem to think that there would be less stress on the ears of the axle that way.
Don, I try to help with pictures when I can. That was mentioned by someone about illustrations, so, I thought I would step it up a little.[/QUOTE]
Yep, you always come through. Me, I make stick drawings.
Don
NEVER GO TO THE SIDE FOR ADVICE they will only put down your ideas. Because they are always right. RUSTY
Some call my drawings ,scrawlings ,akin to chicken scratch, but definatly one step above a doctors signature!!
thats the way i would do it. those spacers won't work. :mad:Quote:
