"Rat Rods" the latest "Kit Cars"?
I was flipping through the latest issue of Ol School Rodz yesterday and noticed an add offering Rat Rods 75% complete, you finish... ?????

U think thats bad theres a company out there selling fiberglass rods painted up to look rusty, they even go as far as adding metal panels to look like a welded in patch, the way i see it is the whole rat rod ,low buck diy theory has killed itself, its now so trendy that the original intention is long lost, but hey maybe some of you can cash in just take some sand paper , scratch up that shiny paint set it out in the rain, then take your nice uphoulstry out throw in some junk yard seats, or better yet take that old seat you have been saving to recover, put that in there and that $25.000 rod just went up to $50.000

This is no joke. When I am finished building the T, I am going to build a true rat rod, for the sole purpose of selling it on Ebay. It won't be crappy in the safety sense, and will be constructed as sound as possible, but it is going to have all the elements these guys who are paying huge sums of money seem to want.
It will feature a rusty body and a haphazard paint job on the frame and undercarriage, and I am going to use all of the parts I have been saving that are really too ugly to use on any car I want to drive. It is going to be a ground scraper, use some unorodox V8 with homemade intake and exhaust, and generally be as "Mad Max" looking as possible. I figure it will be a great way to clear out some of my leftover parts, and make a few bucks too. I'm thinking Cadillac V8 power maybe.
When I see people paying upwards of $ 12,000 for crap, I figure a good running, safe rat should be very sellable. So, sometime in the future, look for "Project Rodent" to begin.

So now the quest to be "unique" and "expressive" can be copied easily, sounds like what has happened to all the other fads over the years. I hope they have the real rat rodders on suicide watch now!!!! When the yuppies start buying them, I suppose they will also get the matching wash off tattoos like some were sporting this year at Sturgis... Real hardcore bikers and rat rodders....til Monday when they shower, wash the tats off, and go back to the brokerage house for another week of the same old grind...

Two years ago I bought a project that after I nailed it together (cuse I really wanted to drive it) I called it a "Rat" rod because it was a rat and really needed a lot of work to look nice (I takes 17 cans of spray paint to cover a 31 ford coupe sos its all the same color) but apparently I was told that it looked to nice to be called a rat rod so now I'm lost.
I think that it must be a hot rod because its not nice enough to be a street rod,<Grin> This post has no point to it so scuz me

Most of them have a short life span and they're out before most of us can get in.
