' 25 Dodge Tourer Project

Sorry i hijacked someone elses post when i 1st joined so thought i should do the right thing,, heres our lil project. No offense but we were sick of looking at Ford this and Ford that so when we started looking for a project FORD wasnt on the list. Having owned many MoPars and the price of the basics being so much more realistic than a similar Ford badged tourer we thought lets be different. Lets build something that no-one else has, sounds good in principal but it means we cant walk into a shop or buy of the internet bolt on Rod parts... i know its the true rod tradition to do-it-yaself but its our 1st full project,,, head first. And were sticking with the NO-FORD idea.

Original 44K mile Dodge Tourer
Chassis and all mechanicals have been fully restored. This will be sold of to a "cough cough" restorer. We have a 2nd frame to modify.
Body never bent or damaged what you see is all original, bead blasted and primed. (some minor rust at bottom of front fenders and under doors)
All original timbers to remain in place.
Will try and keep original steering column and wheel.
Due to the front end we will use we will prolly keep the fenders for now to hide it.

Front suspension and steering will be HT or HG Holden with Leyland P76 Discs. (maybe 2" inch drop spindles)
Rear end will use a Chrysler Centura 4 Bar. Borg-Warner Diff (4.11?)
We have a 318 (Made in Brazil) that we dont know specs of but have found it has a top end windage tray, double springs and a LD340 Intake Manifold that had a 600 Holley on it, all else is an unknown other than it was a very very strong runner, we will just freshen it up. Hoping for 300-350Hp maybe
Trans is a 904, Full Manual, Reverse Pattern 4000RPM stall

Its our fiorst rod and will be a budget one, with limited tools for chassis work (no welder) it will not be getting Channelled or tubbed or anything wild. We just want it to go and stop and do the middle bit as fast and as load as possible, all safely of course.

Please comment as we love to hear others ideas, but remember we are trying to keep it simple and not a big $$$ car

It certainly has a lot of potential!!! Sounds like you have some good plans for it. Changing all the suspension over to late model pieces and adding V-8 horsepower you should consider boxing the frame rails and installing some stout crossmembers. As you don't have a welder, IMO it would be money well spent to have it done...... That's a lot of horsepower going into old pieces that were designed for less then 60hp!!!

OMG, those wheels are so beautiful. It's a shame you can't use them with the kind of horsepower you're planning.

Great looking car, and I like the idea of a Mopar in a Mopar.

But, you have got to get a welder. Even if it is just to tack weld things until you can take them to a weld shop, or someone else who can do it.

There are only so many things you can do with an electric drill and bolts, especially with the plans you have. It doesn't need to be an elaborate mig or tig setup, the old fashioned arc welders that you can pick up for $ 200.00 work great. I know they are old fashioned in this day of migs and tigs, but for the average hobbiest, they work fine.

We have 2 migs and a plasma cutter, but I refuse to get rid of my old Lincoln arc welder, because I feel comfortable with it. I built my entire '27 with it, by spot welding it and then taking it to a pro for finishing.

The guy who finished my frame was a teacher at the vo-tech, in welding, and he used his arc welder to do the final welds. They look like mig.

Every tool I add to our shop becomes "how did we get along without this one." So I really suggest you invest in at least the arc welder for the reasons I mentioned above.

Keep sending pictures as you go along. It is really fun for everybody to see them.
