While I was working on the chassis I had mocked up a cardboard version of a 13 gallon gas tank and sent it to Rock Valley for fabrication out of extra thick 14 gauge stainless steel (they usually use 16 gauge) and shaped it so it could serve as a lookalike rumble seat as far as height compared to the stock rumble seat (measured from a restored '29 Model A) but not very comfortable except for maybe my grandkids in a parade. I could have made the tank larger but I left a 2" crush space between the steel plate across the rear of the rumble area and the back edge of the tank. As of Summer 2006 this tank is still not bolted in, but here I tried it for size and it only required a little trimming around the mounting flanges. The filler neck is inside the rumble area so the deck lid can be locked and at the left rear of the rumble area it can be reached easily with a gas nozzle as long as there is a cutout in the upholstery there. This view is from the front seat area looking back through the body and you can see one of three vertical 1" steel bars that reinforce the body between the front and rear seat areas. The flaky paint on the wood under the rear panel was cleaned up when the body was painted.
