Are you gong back to original? Use 38 parts since the 38 and up uses a better clutch system then a 37 and get the bellhousing too since there is a difference in the 37 to the 38 to 46,you could also use a trans from up to a 46 but get 1/2 ton parts only. 3/4 tons and up have a different master cylinder mounting then the 1/2 tons and the pedals and mounting are different too.
Thanks for that info. I found a 38 and I'm using it on a 305 chevy small block that has been built up to 303HP at the crank. So far it's held up but the syncros areshot so I'll be tearing it down to replace them and change 2nd gear as it l;ost one of its teeth.
Are you still using the original rear end too? as I would have never thought they would last a day behind a V8. I tore one up with a 235 and since replaced the original 3 speed with a T-5 and a Ford 8 inch rear end,you might also look at the 49 to 54 car trans as they go togather like the 37/38 3 speeds. I used a motors manual 49-54 trans section to help me go through a 38 trans and since disassemby and assembly process is the same the parts might be similar too.
Your right on the rear end. I'm surprised that it held up to the 216 origional engines. I'm using a 9" ford from a mid 80's truck. I have no problem with the replacing of gears in the tranny as I've had many apart. Great info thou. Thanks Bart
