If you narrow the crossmember, you'll want to narrow the rack the same amount. Not the tie rods, the rack itself. You need to keep the tie rods the same length to match up with the control arms and prevent bump steer. I've never done this or seen it done, I'm just thinking out loud. If it were me, I might be looking for some positive offset wheels to put the tires further inboard.

I already have the narrowed rack and narrowed A arms, but I am not happy with the crossmember and the way it is attached to the frame and want to redo it while my panel is in pieces. I think it is about 9in narrower then stock and A arms are 1in narrower.
