Measure one from under a late 70's Bronco. It might be pretty close to right.
early bronco is 58" from wheel flange to wheel flange I have one set aside. EdQuote:

The stock S10/Blazer rear axle is very narrow. I was surprised when I got mine how much narrower than the 8 inch Fairlane rear axle I have. My Son even put a Mazda RX7 swing axle assembly under his S10, and had to narrow the axles a little to get that to fit.
I bet you are going to have to go to someone who makes up rear axles like Currie ( I think they do housings) or Morrison ( also, I think) and get one that is narrow enough. Could be wrong though, and there may be a junkyard fit out there.

thanks , i found one that was built for a mustang with disc brakes for 200$ but im kinda leary because the guy cant tell me anything about it all he can tell me is that is was supposed to go in a mustang and the guy gave it to him in trade for some tat work!??! i measured it but i just measured from inside disc to inside disc. i think i would be better off buying a housing from my buddy for 100$ and have the tubes shortenedfor 140$ and order new axles and gear assembly. i just wished there was a cheaper way cause all together im lookin at 1200-1800$. im lazy and about broke but i want a good rearend,im only runnin 300hrse.anybody got anything like that??? thanks again
theres no 9" thats going to fit your S10 even the narrowest models are about 3 1/2 inches too wide.... probably you'd have better luck with a dana
Some guys on the S10 sites are running alot more than 300hp and doing ok with the 7.5". Some of them do tend to break around 300hp though if you 'shock treat' **) them off the line. The newer 8.8" fard rears are plenty strong (JUST ASK THE 5.0 CROWD) and most of the size difference can be made up with back spaceing.Explorers,,, around 94,,, are a very close match to the size of the 7.5" size.
If the 9" your looking at has the I.D. tag and drivers door tag you should be able to identify what is has for internals.
Don't be afraid of the 8.8 rear ends!!! Lot of the Mustang guys are running in the 10's with them. I still like the 9" because it's so much quicker to change gears, but if that is not going to be a concern for you, the 8.8 would be a good option....
Try Moser Engineering when I had a housing made for my 23 T they were the best price .
