Your car is the same as any '81 to '87 G body. Monte Carlo, Cutlass, Grand Prix, Regal, etc...
Any rear from a car from that genre will bolt in.

But---Finding a posi is going to be tough.Try a SS monte or if you have the wheels to get you can put an Explorer rear in it.Alot of them are 373 posi. Originally Posted by astroracer Originally Posted by astroracerwww.adoptafriendforlife.org

I know, but he didn't ask how easy it would be to find one. He asked what years would swap... Originally Posted by bigdude Originally Posted by bigdude

i've pulled quite a few rear ends at wrecking yards for $50, inspected them myself and put them in customers cars..... sounds a lot cheaper than a new carrier to mejust because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day

The Explorer rear end will work with a lot of fabrication. Your best bet is a complete posi from the same year Monte SS, Grand Prix, Buick Regal, Olds Cutlass. Find one in a junk yard that has some type of guarantee that it's not worn out, and it will be a bolt in.Jack

yeah goto the wrecking yard, and look for the same series car as yours, find the sportiest models of your body style, and check the tags to see what rearend they have, theres gotta be somebody who has your rearend codes.... pull the diff covers if the gears dont look chewed up, then see if you can get at least an exchange warrantyjust because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day
