Need to replace seats for 1950 Chevy

Looking for two bench seats, I've got a '50 Chevy that needs a front & back seat. I bought it with two swivel bucket seats with armrests from a van or a boat installed by the previous owner and it has no back seat. I hate them. This is not the look I want for this car.

All I really need is for someone to agree that Chevy bench seats from a pick up or any other Chevy of similar styling will fit.

My welder buddy says he'll buils a mounting rack for whatever I get as long as the seat fits in the car.

anyway, any help or suggestion is appreciated.

i put a split bench from a caddy in a friends 50, fit great & looked like it belonged there, as for the back u got me since his was a businessmans coupe & they dont have a back seat...joe

i have a 50 chevy business coup i used 66 gto front seat. the rear back seats i think nova?? or older chevy will work. my business coup hase a back seats and it is not much it has a wood back on it but it a seat. i think a trip to the bone yard is needed you mite fine some cool stuff cheap**)

What model 50 chevy do you have? Sedan. Coupe. Four door?

Well, I got a four door, I'm gettin desparate.

I got a lead on a late 70's ford p/u, with a bench seat for 20 bucks. I'm gonna measure it up for fit...

You know, I visited a couple of yards in my town and these guys are #*@$'n uncooperative as heck, nobody's got seats to let go of... jerks.

2 mainstream models made from '49-'52, which was the styline which was any car that was not a fastback style, the fastback was the Fleetline, both styles came in both 2dr and 4dr.

sorry folks but a business(man's) coupe has no back seat here's the proof but the "Sport Coup" does. the business coup was exactly what its name implies, it was used mostly by the salespersons of the day & the backseat wasnt used so that area could be used to store their goods. all that was there was a piece of plywood...joe

Hey I'm pullin' apart my '48 2dr. fleetline and have both the front and the back seats that I won't be using. I don't know if'n they'll fit but your welcome to them. too bad I'm so far away though.

Pablo, do you have any pics of your 48? I have a 48 coupe as well and looking for some idea's here.

Just movin' the car between shops today. I think I'm gonna scrap the roof chop though, the line on the back of the fleetline is gonna be tough to chop and match up. If you have a coupe though I think it'll be a lot easier 'cause they're kinda notched just below the rear window.Should be gettin' busy on it early next week so I'll pass along some pic's as I get going.

I hear ya. I was looking at that as well on mine and I hear they are pretty hard to chop on a 48 but if you go an inch or less I hear that not much is needed but if your gonna chop then why in the heck will you do less than an inch? I have some sweet pics of a chopped 48 with pie cut hood like I want, the fenders are reshaped, etc. It looks really sweet.

Update...

Sorry I disappeared... but, still haven't found anything that's gonna work. I'm gonna build a wood frame to fit and have it upholstered. I'm skilled enough for that. I'll get back soon with the progress.

all of the back seat of my 50 is made of plywood ? i do not know if gm made them that way i do not think so?? but it works fine .that why i said my car was a buiness coupe ? :whacked:

A 50 car it is. Mine in my 48 is all wood. My dad said it's not stock but I think it is because it has the small round holes in it like 4 of them in 1" diameter and you can see the under foam. Business coupes didn't have back seats.

Back of my '51 Chevy rear seat back is wood also and it is stock. They didn't have very many materials to work with back then, just wood, steel, some vinyl/ plastic materials but that stuff is found only on dash knobs and door switch prongs.

yes but my car is not stock .so how can you tell if had a back seat in it from gm? it dose now but the back is plywood and had small steel plate cover on the bottom ply wood part ?and the only thing that differs from the coupe and the bussines coupe is the back seat so if some one made a seat for it and put it in. it still could of been a bussines coupe from gm ??why would somone take the time to put a inspecstion cover in the bottom of the seat??? this is somthing i could not figure out

They could have gotten it from a coupe and put it in there. There was NO SEAT in a business coupe. They did this for business of course for suitcases, etc so saved room. You should be able to tell by the floor. Business coupes were basically straight floors in the back with little indention. Coupes had a raise or level for the back seat.

no i do not think gm would change the floor pan if you meant a seat riser i do not know. if they screw ply wood to something??
