I would never buy anything like parts without inspecting it/them. I buy stuff from Craig's List from time to time, but if I look at it and it seems sketchy, I walk out. I suppose if I was looking at a set of heads, and they were some less-than-common part, and I really wanted them, I'd make an offer contingent on inspection by a third party. If the seller balks at that, walk. JMO.

Racing junk has some good parts and also some junk parts. The regular sellers on there are usually pretty reliable.

Race, performance & street cars, engines, engine parts, trailers for sale

But you have to define what heads you are looking for and let us help you decide if used vs new is even worth buying.

CraigsList is just the local newspaper "for sale" ads gone electronic. Just like a newspaper ad, people tend to amplify the good features, while overlooking flaws in their wording so it is "buyer beware", or at least "buyer be wary". I would never buy critical, machined components sight unseen from an individual. You simply have no protection from misrepresentation, or misunderstandings. Even buying used stuff from someone you know can carry risks.

I buy stuff off there all the time, that being said, I would probably be inclined to rebuild any used wearable part like valves on a set of heads, and have the heads ground too. Basicly a valve job. I figure if your buying used you need to assume the parts are worn, unless they come in the original box, and look new with a reciept showing they were purchased new, even then buyer be ware. I have had great luck with stuff like used/new carberators and intake manifolds off ebay. Heads are a big investment, so history from seller helps. I also bought a used Mallory distributor off ebay for a great price that still works fine. I guess the ultimate question is how much, for what, and what will it cost to make it work?

I did pick up some machined and ready GT40P heads , they were still apart and the work done was great . But you have to make sure , always go and view this type of item .
