i used some old chevy wheel tubs on my shop truck bed. bed was in sad shape with an old diamond plate floor. plan was to bed liner it.
well since then i decided to build a new bed so i ordered new tubs. figured i would just use the whole tub instead of cutting them.
well i had a bad felling and it came true today. going to have to cut about 3 in out of them.

yeah, a little set back but once i get started it wont be too bad. just hurts to take a grinder to shiny paint .

Looks like you might be able to cut the boards to fit and lay the chrome strip over the fender tub?

what if you just take out one broad middle then just balance the make up on the board around the tubs looks like it woud not be much so two new boards. start were you want the SS trim to lay it out. check if one board out will work zipping the SS trim around the tub looks like that could work have or know someone with a mill ? it would be not to bad mount the trim strip to hard wood to hold it so you do not rap up the trim in the quill of the mill . last thing i would do would be cut the tubs. i have a 55 pickup that still is running around same tubs

I looked a little more, and the stock 9 board layout that was used through around mid-'51 had widths 4-1/4", 5", 5-1/2", 5-1/2", 6-3/8", 5-1/2", 5-1/2", 5", 4-1/4" in a progression from narrowest on the sides, widest in the middle. If you try to simply go real wide on the outside two to fill around the wide tubs and save the other boards it will not be as pleasing to the eye in my opinion. You're a woodworker, right Shine (think I recall some interior details you did)? Measure the width you need to just clear the tubs and let them sit flush on wood with the SS bar adjacent, then using that width balance the others into a nice seven or eight board layout that's symmetrical, maybe going narrower towards the middle? I agree, I would leave the tubs alone unless there's not another answer. They look too cool.

it's a 54 ford. all the boards are the same . there is still one more board but it needs cutting out under the tub to clear the tire . after studying it i think i can tweak the tubs to the edge of the stainless grove. i will make a shim to put under the tub in the grove then trim the ss strip like pat was talking about. making new boards would be a lot of work with drilling new holes and such. i really hoped they would fall on solid wood. i got the tubs first so i had them painted already. will study it some more today . the s10 rear sucked the tires in just enough to need some tub . hope to finish it this fall . pretty sure it's already sold . i have a 57 chevy big window to do next.
anyway the tubs just look cool even if it's not a prostreet .

Sorry, you got me with the "..chevy tubs" in the intro, and I assumed you were working an early chevy truck. For me cutting & finishing new wood would be a whole lot easier than massaging the metal.

there is only one bolt that is going to be a problem. hits halfway on one that goes into the brace. i can leave the ss strip under it and bolt through it. god i love drilling ss
yeah chevy trucks were a little on the stupid side. never understood the boards in them .
