Hey you guys, how about some paint scheme help!!

I'm starting to prime my '29 A pickup project today.
I'm looking for suggestions for color or color scheme.
I like black, medium metallic silver, Washington blue,
I don't know. What have ya got!
My modified is flat black, I'm wanting something different

Well since we really don't know you or your car well - I'll just throw my .02 in the ring.
Black = lots of body prep time and it has to be pretty flawless. Also IMO, too many black cars.
Silver = Need good technique to stay away from tiger striping plus, not sure how well an 'A' pick up would look silver. A darker gold instead maybe.
Blue = not sure what shade that Washington Blue is, but most, not all, blues don't do much for me (I'm somewhat color blind so that might temper my likes)
There are lots of bright colors or two tones that will set the PU off. Too many folks use muted colors - and not that they are bad, but why go to the trouble and expense of building something that ends up being another ho-hum in a line of cars at a show or cruise-in. Also, the 'A's are small, so show it off.
Of course, these are just my opinions and since I seldom shy from one..............:whacked::LOL:
I just found the Hot Rod Flatz website and was suprised how much I like the Flat colors
they offer. Now I'm thinking gloss black frame and underpinnings with Flatz Hot Rod Red
or Blood Red or Steel Blue! (Now I'm totally confused!)
Just remember that flat finishes don't repair well, without respraying the whole panel. You did say easy to live with.

Yes you are at the hardest part of any project and man,I can relate to your problem. The thing is we could all give you ideas but at the end of the day,it is your rod and you have to live with it so really what I may think is a excellent colour for your truck,you or somebody else would say no way. We do have a very nice pickup like yours down here that is painted bright orange and that stands out amongst the crowd.
I personally have changed my mind on the final colour of my bucket so many times now that I have lost count. My chassis is finished in a hard 2 pack shiny black and for the knock around testing 6 months the body was satin black which looked cool also but I am lending towards a bright colour. Oh another thing to think about is what colour interior do you wish to have.
Posting a bigger picture of the car might help people visualize possible combinations better (it’s kind of hard for me with just the picture in your avatar).
For what it’s worth to me darker or flat colors tend to draw my eye more to the shiny or brighter parts of the car which on the on something like your pickup would be the engine (or possibly interior).
Brighter colors seem to visually “tone down” the contrast of the chrome against the body and draw my eye more to the body itself.
As mentioned at the end of the day what really matters is if the truck brings a smile to your face.
So....... I'm blockin'out the frame trying to get excited about
blue...It's not happening!

So....... It's got to go bright RED!
One of the nicest reds for that is Porsche Guards Red. I've painted a few of my cars that color and it really stands out and gets compliments.
I'm actually kicking around either doing my 37 in that color of doing it a bright yellow with red flames.
my 2 cents. i am getting ready to repaint my monte once the mechanical work is finished. i love my satin black with the red and black interior but i am looking for more pop. so i painted the rings around my headlights bright red and reinstalled them. just to see how the colors complimented each other. i love the combo. so the next step is to sand and block the top half of the car so to paint just that the red i chose. i have seen alot of 2 tones at the car shows and they really stand out.
You want bright!!!! This is mine at a show a couple weeks ago - late Shelby/GT Mustang Venetian Orange. It will get some pinstripes soon to set it off even more

You know a paint job is the final thing you usually do on your vehicle. It says you are ready to drive and show it off. Getting ideas from looking at other cars and trucks is a good idea. Going to car shows is another way, but inevitably the final decision is yours and should be what you can live with and not care about what anyone else thinks.
Looking at paints on PPG, Dupont, BASF websites and other paint companies may be another way to pick as well.
I was in the same boat as you and after looking, found a car for sale in the back of Goodguys that had the colors I am going to use.
Candy Apple Red with Pegan Gold flame accents. THAT!!! would be a showstopper. It may not be easy to "Live" with if you want to do repairs, but then....do any of us actually "Plan" on repairs?
Candy Apple Red base coat paints are pretty easy to spray and are not as fussy as straight candys.
I saw a color last weekend on a poker run that absolutely screams old school hot rod. Wish I couldve taken a picture. It was a type of yellow but it was a sort of brownish, yellowish with a tint of green in it. LOL's. I'm sure that didnt help much but seriously it looked great on the ole gals old bug. I was going to try to figure it out my self at my local paint shop. I'd call it a dirty yellow. Looked like something a company wouldve painted their fleet cars/trucks back in the day. And it was gloss.

BURNT ORANGE!!! With chrome,,, Oh Yea!!!
I just bought the paint for my truck! I went with single stage acrylic urethane from
TCP Global. "Ford Tractor Red" It's a Red/Red (and I like the name!).
I don't know yet to trim it out with a silver or maybe an off white?
