hello room - curious about heavy bolts (front suspension, frame bolts, body to frame) -the frame is going to be painted gloss black - (this is underneath a 46' ford) but I would like the bolts to have a different look. Can or should I nickle plate them or? - I don't really want chrome. Thanks for any advise.

Why don't you try using a Por-15 product like their silver anti-rust and their clear (which is also an anti-rust) to give the effect of chrome yet will never rust and is less expensive than plating. While we're on the subject, try using their gloss black on your chassis. It is better than just painting it black with clear over it. Paint will not give you permanent rust protection and a guarantee for many years. Also clean-up is alot easier than just using paint, just using water will wash away any debrie that may get on the chassis. If you want to make your car as functionally beautiful as it is fun to drive and you want to keep it that way, use Por-15 on all your floors, engine compartment and trunk liner. You can even use it on the underside of the car completely enveloping the car in superior rust protection. I restore cars and customize to build rods as my living, I use Por-15 extensively on all my projects and my customers appreciate me giving them a car that will stand the test of time. Powder coating is cheap enough and stands up well. And you can get a variety of colors to complement the black frame.
Still, I do like the idea that antique put in, silver bolts and stuff on a black frame...cool

I have to agree with antigue on the POR-15. I've used it on all my chassis pieces. I also use in on the floor pans with fiberglass matt to stiffen the chassis, adds sound deadening, insulates and leave a very nice gloss matt finish. I prefer to brush if on rather than spray it. It flows so well, you can't tell the difference anyway. With proper metal prep (metal etch) it is very tough. One thing though, when brushing it on, use a quality grade brush. It does make a difference.
I've been using POR15 products for about 10 years now, in fact I sell it also. Believe what everyone says about this stuff, it works! I have an issue with the silver, after being on the bolt heads of my undercarriage for 10 years, they have dulled a bit. I did the entire undercarriage in glossy black 10 years ago, and absolutely no chips or dulling, and most important, no more rust. It is still a mirror finish. I sold the 32 this was on last year. The new one is getting the same treatment.

Can POR15 be used as a base primer on bare metal under a base coat/clear coat paint job? Just wondering if it is that good at preventing rust, can it be used everywhere?
