'54 Buick musings......

The weather was almost tolerable today, so I walked a couple laps around my old Buford.... The car has a beautiful roofline, and no, Richard, I'm not going to chop it!!!!!:LOL::LOL::LOL: What did fleetingly pass through my mind was how gorgeous the '54 drop top Bufords were, and maybe a removable hardtop would be a nice mod????

Then there's the tailights...Think it originally had some little round things in the top of the fender...but with a careful sectioning cut along the raised portion of the top of the quarter panel and about a 3" tall insert the baby fins could house a pair of '59 Caddy bullets on each side?????

Oh yeah, the hood is already louvered (think it's the law to have louvered hood on a 50's Buford), maybe the portholes need a bit of restyling?????

And, my buddy StuCool has me convinced to go with an LS type engine---and of course the mandatory (in my rule book) six speed trans.....

It's still about the 3rd project down the list, but I love the planning and parts acquistion part of a build..... Your input would be appreciated.....

"fleetingly"?? Maybe it was just a couple of quarks blasting through your gray matter at light speed and you'll be better by morning. Take a couple of aspirin and put a cold towel on the back of your neck. :LOL:

Naaaaa, just having fun. I think a removeable hardtop would be a cosmic idea. :D

Several years ago, I saw a '53 Stude that had been shortened. The leading edge of the rear wheelwell was right at the bottom corner of the door and I nearly dropped my teeth. That was one of the most beautiful cars I have ever seen. The guy had cut the top off and was driving it as a roadster. I don't know whether or not he had the hardtop shortened and stowed back at the motel or what. I have thought ever since that a guy could shorten any of those 50's cars and make 'em look as good. Maybe use an El Camino top and make it removeable????? I wish we still had John Gemmer on here. He would be able to render this thing out in PhotoShop so we could all see what it would look like in Fast Red.

I was thinking of just using the sling thing in the ceiling of the garage like we used to do with the removable Carson tops????? --and of course 4 bucket seats with a full length console!!!!!

You mean like just in the front with a normal type rear seat????? My full length console wouldn't fit!!!!!!:LOL::LOL::LOL:

No room for a rear seat when you shorten the car. Softly now, TWO bucket seats, TWO bucket seats.....:eek:

Yeah, could shorten it, dang thing is about the same length as a barge anyhow....Then maybe a bit of Harley J's "Wildcat II" styling on the front???????......
