repainting hood

This is for my 96 z28. The paint on the hood has really gone to crap over the last year since I bought it (aftermarket hood --> bad paint job). it has hood pins also which i plan to remove and fill. can someone run me through the process for repainting this thing right myself? it is fiberglass...should i sand it down bare or just scuff it real good? what grit do i want to use? it is being painted the same color, but i am also painting a spoiler which is a different color...do i want to take any other steps to prep that since it is a color change?

alright well i went for it and i can say that i sucessfully filled two 1 inch holes left from my hood pins. that part looks great. even the paint looks good (still needs wet sanding since the clear came out extra rough). If my car were dark blue instead of medium quasar blue metallic I would be perfectly happy with it . The truth is this is my first time spraying a panel and as large as it is it took me 4 coats to figure out how to lay a nice even coat. I wanted 2 coats in order to match the car so now the hood is waaay too dark. i learned quick that the spoiler needed to be primed a much lighter color than black as the medium blue is too light to go over it so it didn't bother finishing that for now.

I have a false hope that wet sanding will somehow lighten the color (either by cleaner reflection, a miracle, whatever...). i know it probably won't do a thing. is my best bet to completely sand it down and do it over with the two coats i intended to in the first place or is it possible to salvage some of the paint i just sprayed by sanding it a couple coats and respraying a final color coat and clear? keep in mind i am selling this car in less than a year and only need it to be half decent...

so far this is a great learning experience . i am in no way happy about spending another 100 bucks on paint, but other than too many coats i feel like i started to get a feel for it. even after another 100 bucks i will have painted it myself for less than i wouldn have paid a shop. o yea...and i hear real shops charge extra for the moths in the paint when painting at 9pm with flood lights

You'll probably have to blend over on to the tops of the fenders to make the color match, then clear coat the whole fenders...Try not to put too much color near the doors..

i don't expect it to match perfectly, but the whole front of the car was painted with in the last few years so i shouldn't be too faded. i think i am going to sand it down and start over. two coats should match the rest of the car just fine. thanks
