Correct according to who? It's your car, what do you like? If you're doing a bud-vase restoration, it has to be "right", but if not, whatever you think looks good. Personally, I don't like those all-one-colour jobs, they look like an unfinished plastic model, but whatever turns your crank......
Just a bit more to add to the Pope's comments. If I remember correctly those were originally woodgrain look, so is that "correct"? It's up to you and the colors you choose, right down to the gauge face colors if you're very observant. Some compliment each other, others need some separation to work together, and others still just shouldn't be on the same street together. Here's some pics of a former car of mine that the new owner had upholstered. Nice work, nice complimentary color, but, to my eye, way too much of it in one place. I would have preferred the dash & column in body color (black in this case), but probably the wheel covering in the red. It would have been easier on the eye. The garnish moldings, again in this case, were okay in red, black actually might have been more distracting here, but would have worked either way.
In the end it's a judgment call which way is best.
Most builders usually pick something that will match the interior color(s),..... or if you decide to bring some of the body color inside, most do either the dash,... or the dash and window moldings.
Bottom line is, when you build a car which is not a restoration, it is called customizing. That means you are personalizing it to your own taste.
That is exactly how I feel ,but I was trying to decide for myself. I was thinking body color for dash ,St Wheel/column and garnishes. I guess correct was the wrong term, more of what would you do or pics? should have been my question I guess.
Viper Red is going to be the body color and as I have red digital gauges it would match I think. The interior is going to be tan leather or leatherette.(I just sold that dash w the holes , the one I am using has a sunken gauge area all the way across.
How about a 2-tone, with the top red, and the area along the bottom tan? If you have any body graphics, you could pick those designs or colors up, and use them to seperate the 2-tone colors....even if it's just a pinstripe.
Hadn't thought of that , I'll play w it on the photoshop
