matrix paint?
I am about to do my 33 with bc/cc and was asking in the paint store what they carry. Has anyone out there had experience with Matrix brand. I was looking a SP, but am not crazy about the mail order deal. thx, rod

just did a 62 vette in matrix. will not make that mistake again. it is very brittle , chips easy, had dieback and shrinkage with the epoxy and primer. i use all spi now. you will not be disappointed with it. this 57 vette sat for 90 days before i buffed it. buffed like a dream and had 0 dieback or shrinkage. it has only spi epoxy/ppg s/s /spi uv clear (6 coats )

thanks Shine
Thanks so much for the advice Shine, you probably saved me a bunch of heartburn. I will go with SPI. Would it be foolish to use urethane ss on the frame and bc/cc on the body of the highboy. Should I use the bc/cc on both? thanks again

i used ppg single stage for color on the vette and spi uv clear. it cost a little more but i cant consider cost when doing one of these. i just use what works for me. the ss for color does a good job of covering small things you may have missed. on black cars i use only single stage. clear does change the way paint looks.

Shine, could you elaborate more on the single stage, clear routine. Are you saying you use black enamel that would normally not be used with a clear, and then clear it? I thought you could only use BC with clear over it.
I'm getting somewhat close to painting my T black, and am interested in what you are saying.
Don
PS: Vette looks super BTW.

i do not clear ss black. i use to use centari with a glamor pack . not available here anymore. on many solid colors i use ss only but reds and some others will change color when you cut and buff so i clear them. the 57 vette was a ppg ss with spi clear over it. if i were to do a black car today it would be done with spi ss . no clear.

I also like the Black in ss better that cc/bc. Just finished my 57 Ranchero
with ppg dar 9000 ss. It's real black
Had to get the hardner and reducer in Arizona. I had the paint already

dang how did i get behind. depth in paint is achieaved by clearity in the finish. the fewer distortions the deeper the look. black ss can be polished up to look 10 ft deep. i use ss for color before clear to help with the overall finish.

Thanks Shine, I will take your advice when I paint the 33. Now for the novice question, after I finish with the ss, I would go over the car with 400 wet, then start with the clear? Thanks as always for the help, rod

forget the clear ! put on plenty of ss black, sand 1000 down to 3000 and polish it. it will look miles deep. i only clear if it is red or some other color. sanding red ss and polishing will sometimes turn orange on you.

thanks, someone else was going the ss black, I am planning on using spi viper red, but I take it that your suggestion would be the same, plenty of red and the buff/polish proceedure? thanks
I saw last night on fb about John. The world sure lost a great one. I'm going to miss his humor, advice, and perspective from another portion of the world. Rest in Peace Johnboy.
