Hey guys i was wondering what primer i might use with this product, i bought this stuff to use on small areas , as i work on them , i thought it would be cheaper, but at 13 bucks a can, having used more than 20 cans i now have a pretty pricey paint job,i need a primer i can mix in small batches, then when im done with body work, do a final sanding and spray color, also heres a pic of the filler im using

To bodywork and put a car in a catalyzed primer, I would plan on $300-$500 for materials.

When I'm doing a one color BC/CC job, I usually spend a total of about $1200 for materials.

You can do these for less, but you will end up redoing the job soon, so what are you saving? If you do a good job, and take care of it, it will last 10-20 years or more!

So i can get a catalyzed primer and mix it in batches, and spray it over the stuff ive been using?, the cost dont concern me ,i just would rather spend the money on 1 product instead of wasting my money on spray cans, then spend another 2-3 hundred on another primer, then paint, thats all

i always buy dupont primer in the gallon can.its a good primer.not to expensive and workable.

With all the troubles I've had painting lately, I'm probably the last one who should comment, but . . .

I use Sherwin Williams products, but my local S-W dealer suggested I use Transtar primers and sealers. The formulation is virtually identical to S-W products, and it's less expensive. I used polyester primer (6551-G) on a glass body, followed by a white sealer (6221) but they have epoxy primers also.

Well i went and bought nason 2k primer, its what the paint store recomended,unfortunatly its grey i was getting used to the green,itll be awhile before i can paint ,so i guess ill have to get used to it being grey

Great stuff for a good price. Look into that.

Make sure you read this before you spray. Especially the part about spraying over bare metal.

Also, you may have to thin it a bit more than the data sheet recommends. I've found that out the hard way - orange peel.

They told me nason was made by dupont? maybe . They make Yellow and Grey, thats what everybody uses around here that or the Dupont that says dupont on the label, I think it was like twice as much as Nason.
With instruction from someone my last project I stripped to the metal and did not do any body work. Shot the etching primer and then the Yellow Nason. Then I took my time and did the body work on each individual area. taking each small spot back down to the metal filled with body filler then primed again. I am not at all an expert but it worked out great. I am not good enough to do an entire job at one time.

When your done if there is not much material left give it away. it doesn't seem to last very long on the shelf. I gave mine to a guy that does some body and paint work. maybe he will cut me a deal if he ever has to do anything for me. Other wise it will sit there till it gets hard and you have to throw it away.

Thanks guys, i havnt got a chance to use it yet, but im sure itll be fine, i bought a new spray gun , now i just have to figure out how to adjust that
