If you are going top have the ride repainted soon ,as in 30 days or so then a good thick coat of anyprimer will do,the shop will more than likely bring most of the ride back to bare metal or atleast repair the questionable areas,which will be the ones u redo ,so anything u do now will be redone.If u are going to paint it your self or are going to wait more than a month or plan on preping it for the paint shop u need to do it like suggested above.
