Silicon and silicone are different? Heck if I know, it's one of them but yes the weld itself was a failure. VERY tiny black dots on the weld bead that you could barely see.

The dots in the TIG weld are the result of a contaminated weld. The contamination can be caused by several different things. Not enough gas to protect the weld, dirty or rusty metal, contaminated filler rod, etc. And yes I've had all the above happen to me @ one time or another. TIG likes a clean surface & a clean environment. Sorta' the same as paint.
