Re-Paint on the 57 Plymouth

Well, there's been a bit of head way on the 57. Looking closer at the paint job after I had calmed down a little showed a lot of little problems a few small runs, missed places and a LOT of fisheye. I sent the car out to try to cut and buff the paint on the main body.....what they thought that was going to be a day job turned into 5 very frustrating days for the guy doing the work. It just wouldn't buff out. The general consensus by people who know a lot more about painting than I do is that the guy who painted it over catalyzed the paint.

I spent the last 2 days scuffing and prepping the car for paint, even bought a new gun, a gravity feed HVLP. Well I just couldn't get used to the gun so I dragged out my old siphon gun out and shot it. I've got a little dirt and orange peel in it (less than the guy who painted in originally) and on the bright side I DO NOT have any dry spots, runs, fisheye or missed spots.

I think I'm finally where I should have been months ago. I should start assembly later this week.

The picture (and florescent lighting) don't do the color any justice. It's Porsche Guard Red (Dale Jarrett Red). It is bright RED out in the sun.

good for you mike it looks good that is a nice red. i painted a bmw 6 that color for my doctor friend . i think it was that color it came off ppg red chip book came back as 56-57 plymouth hmmm then it is not the same red

Guards red looks orange under certain lights. My '30 A-bone was Guards red, and just about every photo looks a different color.

Good on you Mike! It's a shame some folks can't just do it right when they're supposedly "professionals". Glad you've got something you can work with now.

Looks great in red! Sounds like a frustrating time. Even us guys who do this for years can have these times too. I had a black truck do this to me, only to find out it was a bad batch of catalyst. I ended up shooting it again, like you did.
