painting side vents on hood
My 37 chevy has two side vents on the hood which are painted the same color as my truck. Want I want to do is paint them chrome and was wondering (one thing I'm not is a painter) if I have to take the paint down to bare metal, prime it and them paint it with a chrome paint. I'm fairy good with an air brush and was wondering if I could do it with that?Keep smiling, it only hurts when you think it does!

I haven't used the new chrome paints, but the way I've seen it described is:
shoot the area black, with a catalyzed paint.
Then you have to sand and buff it to get a very perfect surface.
The "chrome" paint is dusted lightly over that, then it is clearcoated with a special clear that won't cause the chrome to turn grainy like silver metallic.
A lot of work for a small area, in my opinion.
Another option is to have a local sign painter, or airbrush artist paint it to look like chrome. This starts with a white base, and has reflections of the sky and earth painted over it. Most painters throw in a few sparkles, too.

if the parts =metal... why not spend the money to have them chrome plated?
