I'm using the off the shelf Dupont deep forest green metallic to shoot my car to correct my excessive previous orange peel. I know this may sound dumb, but since I don't have a booth in my shop, but I did create a makeshift booth out of roll plastic,2x4's and some tarp. I also made a opening on the floor for my exhaust ventilation fan to suck out the fumes-can I use 250 watt worklamps at a distance to force-dry te paint instead of purchasing 1100 watt curing lamps?
If you want the same amount of heat that you get from 1100 watt lamps, you'll need four times as many. Not trying to be a smartass - those are just the facts of life.
By the way, if you're sucking paint fumes through an exhaust fan, you need to be sure that the motor is explosion proof. If a spark flashes back into your "paint booth", bend over and kiss your behind goodbye. I've met a guy that happened to.
What I have done( in an old grainery that I converted into a shop). I cut a piece of plywood to fit the frame of the walk in door and mounted two 20" box fans with furnance filters and material from old bedsheets to keep the little insects out(bear in in mind it's a small shop). I had to leave the rollup door open some for airflow,but, many have said the results were great. You may have to sand and buff. But for me and the money I save, it is worth it.
Forgot to say, as Henry mentioned, my fans were positive air.
