Synthetic chrome, and chrome paints

Has anyone worked with this new sythetic spray-on water based chrome chemical mixtures?
I am also wondering what the best "chrome" paint is on the market?
I am looking for a new way to chrome certain things without sending them out to a major center for real chroming.

chrome spray paint looks fake, I use it for diffrent things, like my hood ornaments, I put put 3 coats of dupli color chrome spray paint, then after it dried, I put 4 coats of dupli color clear over it, to give it a metal cast finish ( the clear takes the glimmer, which is what I wanted )

I have not tried this, but the best products, as far as I can tell, are from Alsa Corp, and Rage Products. It looks about like highly polished aluminum.

I've been told to shoot the parts black, and finish with a catalyzed urethane. Sand and buff the parts to a "glass-like" finish, then shoot with the "chrome", and finish with a special clear. I know the paint is supposed to be somewhat pricey.

Maybe someone here can tell you if it's actually less trouble or expense than plating.

Thanks HOTROD! Iy anyone out there has tried this water based chemical chrome spray please let me know. From what I see, it would be a really cool addition for the rod shop. The one that I seen was from Spectra-chrome (www.sprayonchrome.com)
