We just used some flattener on my Sons '29 frame, because we wanted a satin finish. It worked great the second time. We had to scuff it and shoot it again, because it came out glossy. Come to find out from the nice lady at the paint store you have to shoot it sort of dry, because if you shoot it wet it shines, even with a heavy load of flattener in it.

I see there are paints sold on ebay that they tout as flat right out of the can, but haven't used them. When I paint my '39 I plan to use the same flattener we used on the '29.
Don........as long as I have projects to finish I can't die

John Deere uses a semi-gloss black, might check with your paint supplier and see if he has it.

Had the same deal with flatteners as Don mentioned...... used to use it on the hoods of drag cars to kill the glare and give this old half blind guy a better chance to see the light!!!!

K check with Dupont.. they got the Hot Rod Black that looks killer,, never used but seen it and it looked good.. myself i just add flattener to the single stage.. you have to add a whole heck of a lot to get good results, but it was worth it in the end..

If you want a black in flat then John Deere dealers have paint called John Deere Blitz Black. Strong and works good. Get their buff primer and paint with activator. 12 bucks for primer, 12 for activator and 23 for paint. Cheap, strong and works and sprays good. It is a semi gloss but more on the flat side. They also have a LOW flat and HIGH gloss paint too, it is the same quality as Blitz Black. A lot of guys use this stuff and it works good.
